What Marvel Is Getting Wrong!!!!!

What Marvel is getting wrong!

I’ve been listening to several podcasts such as Screen Junkies: Movie FightsThe Insanity Check, and reading the blogs and there is a trend I’m noticing; Marvel can do no wrong in the eyes of many. Now, on the flip side of this is the brutal treatment DC/Warner Brothers is getting with Batman V Superman and the PR for Justice League. Is this a fair assessment and why is none of the Marvel Fan boys pointing out the serious flaws that exist in the MCU?

I am going to point out just a few for you guys because it is something that needs to happen. Flaw One: the plot holes and over hype of Captain America: Civil War. I guess I’ll say it, that wasn’t a Civil War; it was a sparring session. No one was really ever at risk of being hurt. In an actual Civil War, people die and things are changed forever. Ummmm, what were the lasting consequences of Civil War? Team Cap and Team Stark aren’t really mad at one another, Bucky went back to sleep in Wakanda, where he is safe and NO ONE DIED!!!!!

Civil War

Flaw Two: The Woman Problem. They are not handling Scarlett Witch’s story right at all. It is very hard to really tell Wanda’s story without her father or brother. It is even worse when she is completely sane. Hers and Vision’s story was one of the weakest parts of the entire film. Yes, they’re married in the comic, but the road to their romance is very bumpy, awkward and uncomfortable. Black Widow is not getting her own film as of yet, and Captain Marvel isn’t coming until 2018. (Jessica Jones doesn’t count because she is NEVER going to APPEAR in the MCU)

Flaw Three: Weak Villains. Seriously, can we get a Villain of some substance and depth because Every Villain, with the exception of Loki has been completely horrible? The great thing about DC in their films and comics is that they have amazing Villains who make you want to be the bad guy. Name me a Marvel Villain that makes you wish you were the bad guy?

Villains Marvel

Flaw Four: Weird and Pointless romance plotlines. OK, sooooo for all intents and purposes there really aren’t any power couples in the MCU. Black Widow and The Hulk (YIKES); Agent 13 and Captain America (Double Yikes) how are you going to kiss your first love’s niece on the day of her funeral? Ummm that’s it because Natalie Portman hates doing Thor so I doubt she’ll be in Thor: Ragnarok and no one likes Paltrow, so yeah there is no love in the MCU. I don’t count any of the Netflix or TV shows because lets face it; they aren’t really in the MCU. Marvel would have been better off having Black Widow and the Winter Soldier start something because then it would be complex ,passionate, and fascinating to watch.

Flaw Five: Hit or Miss Films. No one talks about the Misses of MCU. Everyone, and I mean everyone has something to say about Batman V Superman (which isn’t that bad actually) it was beautifully shot and has given us the best Batman to date. I digress, Iron Man 2&3, Thor: Dark World, Captain America: First Avenger, Avengers: Age of Ultron, All Hulk movies, were either mediocre or just flat out terrible movies. And to top it all off because of Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon is broken.

These are just a few of the problems that Marvel has, but I’m going to stop here because I’m sure some of you need to cool off, but I will say that Marvel Comics is being completely DOMINATED by DC Comics and that is yet another major problem they have because their most popular characters for decades were the X-Men and they have completely neglected them all because FOX owns the film rights.

I’d love to hear from you guys, so leave me a comment!

  1. You make some valid points, though I can’t believe anyone thought Civil War would be Civil War. Spiderman is a kid and they don’t own half the characters. I’m amazed they pulled of Spiderman and I feel like they only did that because Sony was in a PR nightmare with those emails being released. This is why Wanda can’t be done correctly because Fox will not share. I do hear people talk poorly about Iron Man 3, AOU and all of Thor. Captain America the first avenger though had a lot of character development so people might find that boring but I know a lot of people that appreciate that type of thing. I found it boring personally and the villian to be ridiculous but I understand why. Marvel does have a female problem, I know they want to address it, it appears though they addressed diversity issue first. They probably thought between AOS and Jessica Jones it could buy them sometime. I don’t thnk Marvel is perfect by any means I just appreciate what they are doing especially with diversity. And they are doing it correctlly. Its easy to say put out Black Panther now but like Spiderman he had a great introduction to the audience in Civil War. Unlike Spiderman he isn’t well known so they rebooted the comic, went out and got Coates to write it (since they didn’t feel they had anyone in house that could) and now they are releasing promo videos to introduce people to his world. Its very good marketing and if they pull it of making Black Panther as popular as Captain America or Iron man is today think of what that can do to young African American children. That is what I apprecaite the most, because you are right Marvel is not perfect. BTW Batman vs Superman was that awful. Lois Lane was a poor excuse for a woman in trouble every 2 minutes waiting to be saved, Superman couldn’t get a well choreography fight scene to save his life and some of the transitions were awful. Batman and Wonder woman were done perfectly though so saving grace. ~kim

    1. Lol!!! You are completely correct about Lois Lane. I really hope that Wonder Woman and Superman have their New 52 relationship because I think it will help Henry Cavil to be a better Superman. She brought out the charm and light side of Bruce Wayne that was missing from his character for like ever! Now, I do agree with you that Marvel is doing so great things with Black Panther and Spiderman:Homecoming, however they are doing this because I think they completely dropped the ball with the casting of Iron Fist and The Ancient One in Dr. Strange. I’m very concerned about Dr. Strange.

  2. I’m pretty much on board with everything you said. I feel that Civil War wasn’t ever going to be the true Civil War, they simply haven’t introduced enough of the characters. This is where I feel that, while i am not the biggest fan of BVS (I have heard the extended edition is much better though) I feel that they did a better job of setting up for he Justice League movie as we are getting to see more of the characters. The romances in marvel just aren’t there, the Captain America/ Sharon Carter didn’t make any sense and neither did Black Widow/ Hulk. And while I know that romance stories aren’t for everyone, I genuinely think that this is a key element that the MCU is missing. Side note: Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were fantastic in the series. Why can’t they do something like that in the films?

    1. Omg!!! I totally agree with you. Jessica Jones and Luke Cage need to be in the MCU, but I think Jessica and Luke is too much of a rated R character. They went too soon with Civil War. It would have made more sense after the Infinity Wars or Inhumans.

      1. It would have been fine after they had established more of the Marvel Universe. I just feel the whole story is just lacking and it could have been much better with that bit more character development
